MINUTES
Board Members Present: Carlos Florez, David Bukala,
Quintan Cooley, Ruby Clark,
Nicholas Archer, Phyllis Loudermill,
Ann Craig,
Minister William C. Muhammad
Board Members Absent: Eloise Heiftje (Excused),
Staff Present: Denny Powers, Staff Liaison
Chairperson Carlos Florez called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m.
Chairperson Florez asked if everyone had a chance to read the previous meeting minutes
and if there were any corrections or additions.
It was motioned, supported and passed to approve the minutes as presented.
Unfinished Business
Nominations and Election of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson:
Chairperson Carlos Florez noted that nominations will be taken at this time.
Minister William C. Muhammad nominated Carlos Florez for the position of
Chairperson. There were no other nominations and no other discussion. David Bukala
motioned to close the nominations for Chairperson which was supported by Quintan
Cooley and passed by unanimous consent.
The vote was taken on the nomination and Carlos Florez was elected as Chairperson by
unanimous consent.
David Bukala nominated Minister William C. Muhammad as Vice-Chairperson. There
were no other nominations and no other discussion. Quintan Cooley motioned to close
nominations for Vice-Chairperson which was supported by Phyllis Loudermill.
The vote was taken on the nomination and William C. Muhammad was elected as Vice-
Chairperson by unanimous consent.
New Business
Chairperson Carlos Florez noted that he may have some students attend our next meeting.
There was a discussion about the Leadership Academy at MCC.
There was a discussion on crime stats and the availability of that information on the city’s
website on the dashboard as well as neighborhood stats on the police department’s site.
Public Participation
None.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:49 p.m.
The next meeting is May 2, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in room 103 of Muskegon City Hall.
