        Citizen’s Police Review Board

                           MINUTES

Board Members Present:                      Minister William C. Muhammad
                                            Ann Craig, Quintan Cooley,
                                            Connie Navarro, Carlos Florez,
                                            David Bukala, Dardinella Hippchen,
                                            Ruby Clark

Board Members Absent:

Staff Present:                              Denny Powers, Staff Liaison



Chairperson William Muhammad called the meeting to order at 6:41 p.m.



Chairperson Muhammad asked if everyone had a chance to read the previous meeting
minutes and if there were any corrections or additions. It was motioned, supported and
passed to approve the minutes as presented.




Old Business

None.
New Business

There was a short discussion on the vacant seat which will hopefully be filled by the time
of the next CPRB Meeting.

Public Safety Director, Jeff Lewis came into the CPRB meeting after the commission
work session.

Chairperson Minister William C. Muhammad asked if Director Lewis had any comments
he would like to share with the board and if the board had any questions of him.

Director Lewis spoke briefly about the new Fireworks Law and its impact as far as the
city.

Ms. Hippchen initiated a discussion in reference to any progress being made in addressing
issues of violence in our neighborhoods.

Chief touched on a number of programs and topics including, activities of the Social
Justice Commission, evening recreation program, recent training in reference to targeted
enforcement activities to reduce crime, using cadets for some park ranger duties as well
as truancy and curfew enforcement activities.

Ms. Navarro initiated a discussion on what follow is being done after the truancy and
curfew enforcements.

Ms. Hippchen spoke on her involvement with the mediation portion of this.

Ms. Hippchen initiated a discussion about educating people on calling the police and on
how we address trust issues that prevent the public from becoming involved.


Public Participation           None.


It was motioned and supported to adjourn the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.

The next meeting is August 6, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in room 103 of Muskegon City Hall.
