CITY COMMISSION GOAL SETTING SESSION JANUARY 21, 2011 MINUTES Present: Mayor Warmington, Vice Mayor Gawron, Commissioners Carter, Shepherd, Spataro, Wierengo, and Wisneski. Staff Present: Mazade, Al-Shatel, Grant, Kleibecker, Maurer, Kuhn, Brubaker-Clarke, Bailey, Paul, Lewis, Smith, Thompson, Scholle, and Becker. Others: Dave Alexander, Muskegon Chronicle Opening remarks were given by Mayor Warmington. Bob Kuhn facilitated the session. Meeting began at 9:00 a.m. The Mission, Vision and Value Statements were reviewed. What have we done well Managed money and resources we do have Still maintain high level of services Better communication Controlling health insurance Departments working as a team Lived within our budget Team work setting priorities Fire Department negotiations Public Relations for crime and image of City of Muskegon Optimize services Leadership Public/Private Partnerships Seemingly no crisis Financial Projections Muskegon 25 Wise employees Fiscal year changes Farmer’s Market Bridge Card E-bills Appearance of downtown Limbs picked up during windstorm Using youth as voting inspectors Inter-department Cooperation Review of General Fund and Revenues Tim Paul gave a review of general fund revenues and expenditures as well as actual and projected fund balance. A list of ten financial positives and financial concerns were provided and reviewed. Plans Contingent Planning Regional Cooperation Evaluate positions in Inspection Department to continue or privatize Physically move offices to share office personnel City Staff lefi the meeting/session at 12:30 p.m. City Manager and Commission continued discussions immediately following.
