CITY OF MUSKEGON HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES August 7, 2012 Vice Chairperson S. Radtke called the meeting to order at 4:04 p.m. and roll was taken. MEMBERS PRESENT: S. Kroes, L. Spataro, S. Radtke, D. Mayville, K. Panozzo MEMBERS ABSENT: J. Hilt, excused; L. Wood, excused STAFF PRESENT: M. Franzak, D. Renkenberger OTHERS PRESENT: J. McGarry, Lakeshore Museum Center; P. Stone, 1752 Jefferson APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion to approve the regular meeting minutes of July 3, 2012 was made by L. Spataro, supported by D. Mayville and unanimously approved. NEW BUSINESS Case 2012-14 – 430 W Clay Avenue. Applicant: Lakeshore Museum Center. District: National Register. Current Function: Institutional. The applicant is seeking approval to install half-dome canvas awnings with 10” valance over windows facing 4th Street and Clay Avenue. They would also like to install a new sign in the front yard. L. Spataro asked what color the awnings would be. J. McGarry showed board members two different shades of green, and stated they were considering either one of those. D. Mayville asked what the sign would look like. J. McGarry stated that it would match the signs on other museum properties, and provided pictures of the signs. L. Spataro asked how the awnings would fit above the windows. J. McGarry explained where they would be hung. L. Spataro asked that any bolts used be driven into the mortar, not the bricks. J. McGarry stated that he would instruct the installers to do that. K. Panozzo asked where the sign would be placed. J. McGarry stated that it would be to the right of the front porch. A motion that the HDC approve the request to 1) install half-dome canvas awnings with 10” valance over windows facing 4th Street and Clay Avenue, 2) to install an awning over the maintenance door in the alley, and 3) to add a new sign as proposed, with the conditions that the damage to the brick is minimized, all zoning requirements are met, and any necessary permits are obtained, was made by L. Spataro, supported by K. Panozzo and unanimously approved. J. McGarry asked about planting some trees on the property. M. Franzak stated that the HDC did not regulate landscaping. HDC Minutes 8/07/12 1 Case 2012-15 – 1752 Jefferson Street. Applicant: Peggy Oliphant Stone. District: Jefferson. Current Function: Residential. The applicant is seeking approval to install a new garage door at 1752 Jefferson Street. A picture of the proposed door style was provided, as well as a photo of the current door. K. Panozzo asked what color the door would be. P. Stone stated she was going to try to match it to the house. L. Spataro stated that neither the garage nor the garage door were original to the house, so he had no objections. A motion that the HDC approve the request to replace the garage door at 1752 Jefferson Street with a new door as proposed, as long as any necessary permits are obtained, was made by D.
