CITY OF MUSKEGON MUSKEGON HOUSING BOARD OF APPEALS MEETING MINUTES June 6th, 2019 Board Chair, G. Borgman called the meeting to order at 5:30pm. ATTENDANCE: G. Borgman, W. Krick, R. Mackie, E. Mackie, supported by W. Krick and unanimously supported. Public Comment: OLD BUSINESS: DANGEROUS BUILDINGS - NEW CASES: EN1900596 – 769 Catawba Ave.- William Deback 769 Catawba Ave. Muskegon, MI 49442 No owner or representative was present. A motion to declare the structure substandard, dangerous and a public nuisance was made by, W. Krick, supported by; R. Mackie and unanimously approved. EN1901354 – 1285 Eighth St.- FWC Muskegon LLC 1479 E. Ellis Rd. Muskegon, MI 49444 R. Khatari, manager of the property, stated that he had the intention to repair the house when funds became available. However, the home had clear structural damage, as the foundation was failing and had been vacant for approximately two years. A motion to declare the structure substandard, dangerous and a public nuisance was made by, B. Arthur supported by; E. Simmons and unanimously approved. EN1900791- 292 Jackson Ave. (Garage Only)- Valerie Brown 1525 Pierce Rd. Lansing, MI 48910 No owner or representative was present. Staff informed the board that the owner wants the structure taken down. A motion to declare the structure substandard, dangerous and a public nuisance was made by, R. Mackie supported by; E. Simmons and unanimously approved. EN1900278 – 448 Muskegon Ave.– Virginia Moore/Sharon R. Blake 568 Houston Ave. Muskegon, MI 49441 S. Moore, owner of the property, stated that she had a buyer lined up to purchase the home. P. Selmon intends to purchase the home and fix it up, so that she and her husband can retire there. Staff recommended that the purchase be allowed and to give P. Selmon time to get her permits in order. A motion to table until the August meeting was made by, W. Krick; supported by; B. Arthur and unanimously approved. EN1900529 – 1619 Superior St. –Affordable Rental Properties 683 E. Sternberg Rd. Norton Shores, MI 49441 No owner or representative was present. A motion to declare the structure substandard, dangerous and a public nuisance was made by, E. Simmons supported by; R. Mackie and unanimously approved. EN1901368 – 845 Pine St. –Linda Upchurch 884 Mangin Ave. Muskegon, MI 49442 L. Upchurch stated that she wanted to see if the structure is savable, as she inherited the home. Staff did state that the structure is currently stable. Tabled for 60 days in order to get engineer drawings and assess if the structure can be saved. Other Business: William (Bill) Krick was presented with an award for his many years of service with the Housing Board of Appeals by Jay Paulson, Deputy Director of the City of Muskegon Fire Department. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM.
