Public Safety
SERVING OUR CITY
THREE DEPARTMENTS, ONE GOAL
Director Timothy Kozal leads Muskegon’s Public Safety Division,
which includes three critical departments to keep the
Muskegon community safe: the Building & Inspections
Department, the Fire Department, and the Police Department.
Short Term Rental Updates
Effective November 8, 2024, the City of Muskegon has an
updated Short-Term Rental Ordinance.
The Short-Term Rental Overlay District is a designated area
within the city that allows a limited number of licensed short-
term rentals in each of its 11 zones. This district was established
to help maintain a balance between short-term rentals and
other types of property use.
The chart below outlines the number of allowed and current
STRs registered in each zone as outlined in the ordinance. Visit
mkgcity.com/str for additional details.
