CITY COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION POLICY
Purpose
To define circumstances by which the Muskegon City
Commissions should issue proclamations and how to
process those proclamations.
Acceptable proclamations
1. Special days
Proclamations that originate from the City of
Muskegon for express purpose of declaring a
special day or week for citizens of Muskegon.
2. City involved events
Proclamations for activities or events that the
City is directly involved with.
3. Elected Officials
Proclamations requested by organizations and ask
that an elected official present the proclamation
to a group at an event or activity.
4, Awareness Activities
Proclamations requested by organizations that
offer to provide awareness activities for the
benefit of the local community and attend a City
Commission meeting to accept the proclamation.
5. Other Local Governments
Proclamation of support passed in conjunction
with other local governmental units.
6. Benefactors
Proclamations honoring a person whose actions
have benefited the local community to a
significant degree.
Processing Proclamations
1. City Commissioners
City Commissioners should indicate support for a
given cause or proclamation and pass it on to the
mayor for review.
2. The Chronicle
The Chronicle should be asked to print a small
box indicating those proclamations that were
passed at the previous Commission meeting.
3. Lobby
The city should continue to post in the lobby at
City Halli those proclamations that are passed by
the Commission.
4. Consent Agenda
Proclamations should never appear on the consent
agenda.
