Policy Statement On Employee Safety
Philosophy and Purpose
The City of Muskegon recognizes that employees are its
most important resource and that
their safety and health are among our principal responsi
bilities. The City considers no
Phase of its operation or administration more
important than safety and health,
Accordingly, the City will, at all times, and at every
level provide and maintain a safe and
healthy working environment for employees.
The City endeavors to make its safety and health
protection efforts so successful that
elimination of accidents, injuries and illness becomes a way
of life. We commit to involve
both management and employees in the planning, develo
pment, and implementation of
safety and health protection programs.
Management Responsibilities
City management is committed to make available adequa
te resources necessary to ensure
a safe and healthy work environment. This will includ
e resources allocated as available for
training, equipment and facility mainteriance, protec
tive equipment, as well as resources
allocated to the operation of City-wide and departmental
Risk and Safety Committees.
Management employees who have been assigned safety
and health responsibilities are fully
accountable for meeting these responsibilities.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees will follow safe working practices,
obey rules and regulations, and work in
a way which maintains high safety and health
standards, Employees recognize their
responsibility to prevent injuries and illness and will
take the necessary actions to do so.
By accepting mutual responsibility to work safely,
all employees contribute to the
well-being of personnel and serve the City and its reside
