Muskegon Farmers Market Advisory Board-Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – Muskegon Farmers Market Barn 2:00 pm Present: Kathi Upton, Janine Platt, Jon Zandstra, Jon Visser, Dianne Snow, Commissioner St. Clair, Kristin Johnson, Colly Travis Absent: Cindy Larsen, Kim Martens 1. Approval of Minutes Kathi Upman moved to approve the Farmers Market Advisory Board minutes of February 22, 2024; supported by John Zandstra and carried unanimously. 2. Seasonal Status Vendors: Motion to approve Mystic Maritza’s and Egeler Family Farms to Seasonal status was made by John Zandstra and supported by Dianne Snow and carried unanimously. Discussion on potentially reinstating Country View Bakery as a Seasonal Vendor after they notified the market in 2023 that they would be giving up that status. Motion was made by Kathi Upman and supported by John Zandstra to not reinstate them to Seasonal status, and unanimously approved. No rules in the guidelines to address this but discussion indicated that once a status was proactively given up by a vendor, they would need to go through the process to requalify. Lazy Dog Maple Products is working towards Seasonal status under Food Artisan. Discussion on once they meet the attendance requirements (which will be in a mid-June 2024) should they have to wait until next season or can they become Seasonal in 2024. Motion was made by Kathi Upman and supported by John Zandstra to allow vendors working on Seasonal Status to be instated as seasonal in the year they achieve requirements. Unanimously approved. 3. Discussion • Various topics on the 10th anniversary were shared: • June 22nd Scottville Clown Band • Fundraisers – Mimosa Saturdays this past Saturday and scheduling more • Cupcakes and free market bag giveaway • Short demos that will happen throughout the summer • Kids activities for Kids Power of Produce • History of the market • Stories about our Seasonal Vendors • Social Media - giveaways • Senior Power of Produce – starts July 9th • Kids Power of Produce – starts June 8th • Collaboration with Pigeon Hill – 10th anniversary beer • Marketspread Tool – almost ready to start promoting to the public. Staff will send a link to vendors to share with their customers. • Market Website – very close to launching 4. Other Business None 5. General Public Comment: None 6.
